Bryan Payne Executive Director, Investment Development

It’s rewarding to collaborate with our portfolio companies to find a shared vision and be a part of their journeys as they scale to the next level.
The depth and skill set that the Turn/River team brings as part of our investment differentiates us from competitors.
We believe that operational support is just as important as capital in helping our portfolio companies achieve their goals faster.
Today, in my role at T/R, I am responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities. However, I actually began my career as an attorney, and spent several years working in a San Francisco law firm where I specialized in representing public entities, pension funds, and corporations across a wide range of commercial and securities-related matters. That experience taught me a great deal about processing and synthesizing information, and articulating complex ideas. It also taught me how to keep cool under pressure, and how to manage processes with lots of moving parts.
Those skills proved to be invaluable when I decided to transition to a career that was more in line with my undergraduate studies in accounting and finance. I soon joined and rose to the rank of vice president at a SaaS-focused investment bank, Vaquero Capital, where I advised on capital raising and M&A. I made my way to T/R just a few years later.
Honesty, hard work, and accountability drive my work in investment development at T/R. It’s rewarding to collaborate with our portfolio companies to find a shared vision and be a part of their journeys as they scale to the next level.
People may be surprised to learn that I’ve been a musician since age 10 when I got my first guitar—a red and white Fender Stratocaster. In my 5th grade yearbook, my fellow students and I were all asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. My answer? A punk rock star.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and watching our 2-year-old son run, jump, sing, and dance his way through life.
