Kais Baker Executive Director, Turn/River Germany

One of the most beautiful things to me is seeing our European software portfolio businesses turn into global champions.

I love working with software leaders to help them realize their visions. As Turn/River’s Executive Director of Investment Development in Europe, I meet with CEOs, founders, and management teams in the European software market to develop great partnerships for their next growth phase.

Before beginning my career, I studied finance at the Berlin School of Economics and law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. I then dove straight into software investment banking, which is where I’ve focused for the past 16 years. I’ve held senior M&A banker roles advising founders on strategic options for their software businesses and managed global M&A processes to find the right strategic or financial partner. The most rewarding aspect was gaining founders’ trust in managing the future ownership of the businesses that they’ve built over many years, sometimes centuries. Throughout these roles, I learned a great deal about what founders, CEOs, and management teams expect from a good partner—knowledge that I now bring to my work with T/R.

I believe that T/R’s operational expertise distinguishes us from other investors. It enables us to truly understand software companies’ challenges and provide them with tools, experience, networks, talents, and playbooks to help accelerate growth. As a European who has lived in Germany, Poland, and the UK, one of the most beautiful things to me is seeing our European software portfolio businesses turn into global champions.

When I’m not collaborating with founders, I enjoy cycling around Munich in my free time and exploring the city’s beautiful lakes.
