Maddy Nguyen Head of Talent Acquisition

Turn/River is driven by a team that deeply understands the founder’s experience, with many of us having built startups from scratch.

At Turn/River, our mission is to discover and nurture software companies with untapped potential, which we believe are often missed by conventional VC and PE firms. We foster growth to unlock these companies’ full potential by applying our distinctive insights and innovative approaches to each business.

Choosing Turn/River was a natural decision due to our open-minded mentality, setting us apart from other firms and even most startups I encountered. This open-mindedness is evident in our creative approach, empowering us to experiment with our ideas. When these ideas prove successful, they’re not just acknowledged—they’re embraced and adopted, creating a work environment that’s not only productive but incredibly fun! Plus, I’m a people person, so having a job that involves constant interaction is a dream come true.

Before joining Turn/River, my background spans scaling startups across various stages, from contributing to Instacart’s Series A growth to navigating Snapchat through its IPO transition and, later, roles at Facebook, Uber, and my own startup. Turn/River is driven by a team that deeply understands the founder’s experience, with many of us having built startups from scratch. My own venture, Talentdrop, aimed to help startups make smarter hiring decisions, was accepted into Y Combinator and raised over $2 million. Now part of the Turn/River family, I use my experience to foster growth, nurture relationships, and enhance our collective knowledge.

Within my role at Turn/River, I center my efforts on talent acquisition. Beyond accomplishing our hiring goals, my focus extends to cultivating enduring relationships, promoting Turn/River as a high-value employer, enhancing our reputation, and ultimately establishing ourselves as industry experts in talent assessment within the private equity sector.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and baby, going for runs, digging into “explainerism” culture, and exploring new interview or recruiting ideas.
