Samuel Poon Analyst, Investments

At T/R, I ask questions to identify exceptional software companies that fit within T/R’s investment lens.
I’ve always been a curious person; the first job I ever had was as a bike salesperson, and figuring out how people decided what to invest their hard-earned money in was a great way for me to develop a habit of asking the right questions.
During high school, I founded a snow-removal business in my hometown of Edmonton, Canada. Through this experience, I became interested in learning the mechanics of how larger companies grew, which led to me pursuing a business degree from the Ivey School of Business at Western University. Using the passion for investment I gained in college, I became an analyst at a small enterprise-focused PE firm and managed business growth at a Canadian startup. Throughout these roles, I learned the importance of a systematic approach, which drew me to T/R.
At T/R, I ask questions to identify exceptional software companies that fit within T/R’s investment lens. As the first touchpoint with prospective companies, the rest of the investment team and I work closely to develop these prospects into portfolio companies. From there, our unique in-house operational team works closely with companies to build a bespoke plan for accelerating growth.
I spend my time on the weekends outside, either on bike or on foot. During the wintertime, I enjoy getting out to go skiing (cross-country, backcountry, alpine). Regardless of the season, you’ll find me curating new music playlists for my friends or making some of my own music in Ableton!
