Turn/River has pioneered a new type of investor, “the engineer”—investors who make strategic decisions based on data.

I studied biomedical engineering in college and very much still consider myself an engineer today. The only difference is that instead of working on the human body, I’m working on human organizations; and just like with a prosthetic leg, human organizations can be tweaked and fine-tuned to achieve amazing things.

One thing that surprised me when I first started investing was the bad connotations many founders associate with private investors. Whether it’s businesses that collapse after burning capital indiscriminately to grow at all costs, or those that aggressively slice expenses and then are no longer able to provide their customers with the best solutions, there are numerous stories of investors hurting more than helping. If that was how a medical device worked, it wouldn’t be in circulation.

We can look at your website, detect where your conversion rates are falling, and make rapid adjustments to improve bookings momentum. Our data science team can analyze patterns in your market, customer base, and pricing model to identify where money is being left on the table. Leveraging our customer success playbooks, we can increase your retention with high certainty. With just a few tweaks and fine tunings, we strive to engineer accelerated growth and increased profits simultaneously. You shouldn’t have to choose.

Of course, engineering hasn’t been the only thing following me since college. At Georgia Tech I was the president and captain of the skydiving team and I still skydive today, which gives me the unique ability to claim I’ve taken off in many more airplanes than I’ve landed in. Ask me sometime why I feel everyone should try skydiving at least once in their life, and we’ll see if I’m able to convince you!
